Product Details

The Ares 17 inch is a kilogram-class frame. 775mm wheelbase, 1060g, and an AUW that easily clears 2.5kg with batteries and payload. This isn’t the frame you pick when you’re optimizing for flight time — it’s the frame you pick when the job requires lifting real weight and the structure cannot compromise. Heavy sensor arrays, cargo delivery prototypes, professional cinema rigs, military-spec platforms — if your payload has a price tag with commas in it, this is the carbon that carries it.

What separates the 17-inch from the 13 and 15-inch Ares frames? Two things: side plates and scale. The Ares 13 and 15 don’t have side plates — their 4mm bottom plate and 10mm arms form a self-supporting structure that doesn’t need them. At 775mm wheelbase, that changes. The longer arm span creates more leverage, which means more torsional stress at the center joints under load. The 2.0mm carbon fiber side plates tie the stack together laterally, eliminating any twist that would otherwise develop at full payload. It’s 1060g versus 785g for the 13-inch — that extra 275g is all structural reinforcement that pays for itself the first time you land a fully loaded rig on concrete.

The 10mm arms are the same thickness as the rest of the Ares lineup, but on a 775mm span they’re doing different work. Longer arms mean more bending moment at the root for the same prop thrust. If the arms were any thinner, they’d flex under the combined torque of 17-inch props and heavy batteries — and on a platform like this, flex isn’t a performance issue, it’s a liability. We press our own 3K T300 sheet and cut every arm in-house, so the 10mm spec holds true on every unit.

Wide X-type layout, same as the other Ares frames. Four symmetric arms, centered mass distribution, balanced roll and yaw response. The 4mm bottom plate is your foundation — mount your heavy components there and let the 10mm arms and 2mm side plates keep everything rigid overhead. If you’re moving up from the Ares 15-inch, the question is whether your payload needs the extra 130mm of span and the structural reinforcement that comes with it. If yes, step up. If your gear fits the 15-inch bay, stay lighter.

Package Includes

  • Full set of 3K carbon fiber plates (arms, bottom/middle/top plates, side plates)
  • Aluminum standoffs
  • Stainless steel screws and hardware
  • Arm soft mounts (vibration damping)
  • Battery pad
  • Battery strap

Applications

  • Heavy cargo logistics prototyping — 775mm wheelbase and 2.5kg+ AUW capacity for delivery platform R&D. Mount your cargo release mechanisms, landing gear, and payload boxes on a frame that won’t flex under the combined weight
  • Large equipment transport — When your sensor array or instrument package is too big for a 15-inch bay, the 17-inch gives you the clearance. LiDAR clusters, multispectral camera arrays, relay hardware — all fit with room to spare
  • Professional cinema and broadcast — Heavy gimbal systems, cinema cameras, and wireless video transmitters add up fast. The Ares 17 inch carbon fiber frame’s side plates keep the stack rigid when every gram of camera gear matters
  • Military and security platforms — 1060g of 3K T300 carbon fiber with 10mm arms and 4mm bottom plate. The structural margins are there for demanding environments and high-reliability missions where frame failure is not an option

Why Choose YTCarbon

  • We press the carbon, we cut the frame. Raw 3K T300 fiber enters our facility, gets pressed into sheet, and gets CNC machined into your Ares 17 inch carbon fiber frame — all under one roof. No trading company, no unknown supply chain, no batch inconsistency
  • 4mm plate from one piece of carbon. Not glued thinner sheets stacked together. One solid 3K carbon fiber plate per component, machined with deburred edges and chamfered corners that stop cracks before they start
  • No MOQ. One frame for prototyping, fifty for a pilot fleet, a thousand for full deployment. Same carbon, same CNC program, same inspection standard at every quantity
  • ISO 9001 certified. Independently audited quality system with Material Test Reports and traceable documentation available for your compliance requirements
  • Validate before you scale. Get a sample at cost. Build it, load it, fly it, stress it. Then order volume with results your team can verify — not promises from a catalog

Certifications

Every frame we ship is backed by documented quality credentials. We hold ISO 9001 certification for our quality management system, and our carbon fiber materials carry RoHS and CE compliance — which matters if you’re reselling into the EU or supplying customers who need traceable documentation. How We Manufacture Your Frame

A lot of frame sellers can’t tell you how their product gets made because they don’t make it — they buy it from a supplier who buys it from another supplier. We’re different. The process below shows what actually happens inside our facility: raw 3K T300 carbon fiber comes in, we lay it up and press it into sheet, then our CNC machines cut every plate and arm to spec. After machining, each part gets a visual and dimensional inspection before it goes into the package.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What’s the difference between Ares 17 and 18 inch?
Same structure — 10mm arms, 4mm bottom plate, 2mm side plates, Wide X-type layout. The 18-inch has a 815mm wheelbase vs 775mm, giving you 18-inch prop clearance and a slightly larger payload bay. The weight difference is only 30g (1090g vs 1060g). If your props and payload fit the 17-inch, stay with it. If you need the maximum prop diameter we offer, go 18-inch.
+ Why do the 17 and 18-inch have side plates but the 13 and 15 don’t?
Scale. At 594–645mm wheelbase, the 4mm bottom plate and 10mm arms create a structure that’s rigid enough without side plates. At 775mm and above, the longer arm span generates more torsional leverage at the center joints under load. The 2mm side plates tie the stack together laterally, preventing twist that would develop at full payload. It’s 275g more than the Ares 13-inch, but that weight is structural insurance for heavy operations.
+ What battery system should I run?
Dual battery setup is recommended at this size. Dual 6S 6000–8000mAh Li-ion packs give you 30–40 minutes with moderate payloads. For maximum endurance, dual 8S 4000mAh packs with low-KV motors and 17-inch props. The 4mm bottom plate handles the weight — design your battery mounting for balance, not for weight limits.
+ Is 1060g too heavy for practical use?
Not for what this frame is built to do. You’re not racing it — you’re lifting payloads that smaller frames can’t carry. With 17-inch props on appropriate motors, the thrust-to-weight ratio stays comfortable even at 3kg+ AUW. The 1060g is the cost of 10mm arms, a 4mm bottom plate, and side plates that keep everything rigid under serious load. If weight is your priority, the Ares 15-inch or MARK4 V3 Pro 15-inch are better choices. If payload capacity and structural reliability are your priorities, this is the right weight class.
+ Can you customize arm thickness or add mounting points?
Yes. Since we press our own carbon sheet and run our own CNC machines, we can increase arm thickness from 10mm to 12mm, add custom mounting hole patterns, or laser engrave your branding. Custom orders typically need 50+ units. Send us your spec and we’ll quote it — no tooling surprises because the machines are already in our shop.
