Product Details

Carbon fiber mirror covers are one of the most popular entry-level mods in the automotive aftermarket — and one of the most common custom molded CF parts we produce. They’re relatively small, visually impactful, and every car model needs its own specific shape. That’s where mold-making comes in. Send us your STEP, STP, or IGS file (or ship us a sample part to reverse-engineer), and we’ll build the mold and run production under one roof.

Our process starts with mold design based on your 3D data. For prototyping and short runs, we use aluminum molds — faster turnaround, lower tooling cost, perfect for testing fitment before committing to volume. For production orders, steel molds last longer and maintain tighter tolerances across thousands of cycles. The forming method is pre-preg compression molding: we lay 3K twill or forged carbon pre-preg sheets into the mold cavity, close the press, cure at 130°C under pressure, then demold and inspect. After that comes the post-processing — trimming flash, drilling mounting holes, sanding edges, and applying the final surface finish.

Every mirror cover goes through a fitment check against your 3D model before shipping. We can match OEM mounting points, clip locations, and curvature — or modify the design to your specs. Glossy or matte finish, 3K twill or forged pattern, with or without UV-clear coat. This isn’t a universal-fit part — it’s a custom-molded component that snaps on like the original, just lighter and way better looking. Factory direct from Shenzhen, ISO 9001 certified.

Applications

  • Aftermarket Car Modification — Direct-replacement mirror covers for BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and more. Same mounting points as OEM, swap-on installation, no drilling.
  • OEM Brand Customization — Automakers and tuning shops ordering custom-molded CF mirror shells with exclusive weave patterns or colored carbon for brand identity.
  • Racing & Track Cars — Weight reduction on the exterior matters at speed. CF mirror covers save ~200g per pair vs. painted plastic, and they look the part in the paddock.
  • Dealer Display & Show Cars — Exhibition vehicles need the carbon look without the full-body-kit price tag. Mirror covers deliver that impact at a fraction of the cost.
  • Motorcycle Fairing Components — Same mold-and-press process works for bike mirror housings, fairing accents, and wind deflectors. Send us your design.

Why Choose YTCarbon

  • Proven at 2025 World UAV Expo — We exhibited at the 2025 World UAV Expo — see what a real carbon fiber factory puts on the table. Our molded carbon fiber parts drew serious attention from automotive and industrial buyers alike. Same factory, same quality system, same commitment.
  • Mold + Molding Under One Roof — Most suppliers make you find a mold maker, then a molder, then a finisher. We do all three in-house. Aluminum or steel molds, pre-preg compression molding, and post-processing — one PO, one QC standard, one shipment.
  • STEP File to Finished Part — Send us your 3D design in STEP, STP, or IGS format. We evaluate the mold, quote tooling + piece price, build the mold, and run samples for your approval. No back-and-forth with third-party tooling shops.
  • Aluminum for Proto, Steel for Volume — Don’t pay for a steel mold until you’ve validated fitment. We start with an aluminum mold for 10–50 piece prototyping, then upgrade to steel when you’re ready for volume. Saves you time and money upfront.
  • Reverse Engineering from Sample — No 3D file? Ship us a physical mirror cover and we’ll 3D scan it, build the CAD model, and proceed with mold design. We’ve done this for dozens of car models where OEM data isn’t available.

Certifications

Every custom molded carbon fiber mirror cover from YTCarbon is produced under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. RoHS and CE compliant. Mold inspection reports, first article inspection, and batch sampling records are standard. Our Shenzhen factory maintains full traceability from raw fiber to finished part.

How We Manufacture Your Carbon Fiber Mirror Cover

It starts with your design — STEP, STP, or IGS file loaded into our CAD system. Our engineers evaluate the part geometry, draft angles, and undercut areas to design the mold. For mirror covers, we typically use a two-part compression mold (male and female halves). The mold is CNC machined from aluminum (prototyping) or P20/718 steel (production), then polished to the target surface finish — glossy molds produce glossy parts, no secondary polishing needed. Once the mold is ready, we cut 3K twill or forged carbon pre-preg to the layup template, place it in the mold cavity, close the press, and cure at 130°C under 5–10 MPa for 30–45 minutes. After demolding, the part goes through post-processing: CNC trimming of flash, drilling of mounting holes, hand sanding of edges, and quality inspection against your 3D model. First articles are shipped to you for fitment confirmation before we run the production batch.

FAQ

+ Do I need a 3D model to order carbon fiber mirror covers?
Ideally yes — STEP, STP, or IGS format. It gives us exact geometry for mold design and eliminates guesswork. But if you don’t have a 3D file, ship us a physical mirror cover and we’ll 3D scan it, build the CAD model, and send it back to you for approval before mold-making begins. The scan-to-CAD process adds about 3–5 days to the timeline.
+ Should I choose an aluminum mold or steel mold for mirror covers?
Aluminum if you’re testing fitment or running under 500 pieces. It’s cheaper (typically 40–60% less than steel), faster to machine (10–15 days vs. 20–30 days), and produces perfectly good parts. Steel if you’re going into volume production (1,000+ pieces) — it holds tighter tolerances over more cycles and resists wear. Many customers start with aluminum, validate the part, then invest in a steel mold for the production run.
+ Can you match the exact shape of an OEM mirror cover?
Yes. That’s the whole point of custom molding. We replicate the OEM outer surface, mounting clips, and screw holes — then add the carbon fiber layup on top. The finished cover snaps onto the original mirror base with zero modification. If you want to modify the shape (add a lip, change the curve, extend the coverage), we can do that too — just include the changes in your 3D model.
+ How long does it take to produce custom carbon fiber mirror covers?
Mold-making: 10–15 days (aluminum) or 20–30 days (steel). First article sampling: 5–7 days after mold completion. Production: 15–20 days for typical orders of 100–1,000 pieces. Total timeline from 3D file to shipped parts: roughly 4–6 weeks for aluminum mold projects, 6–8 weeks for steel. Rush timelines available at additional cost.
+ What’s the cost breakdown for a custom molded carbon fiber mirror cover?
Three components: mold cost (one-time), piece price (per unit), and optional post-processing. Aluminum molds for mirror covers typically run $800–$2,000 depending on complexity. Steel molds $2,000–$5,000. Piece price depends on size, layup, finish, and volume — anywhere from $8 to $30 per cover for orders of 100+. We quote both mold and piece price upfront, no surprises. Mold cost can be amortized into piece price for larger orders.
