Carbon Fiber Sandwich Panel Details

What Is a Carbon Fiber Sandwich Panel?

A carbon fiber sandwich panel bonds two thin, rigid carbon fiber face sheets to a lightweight core — honeycomb, foam, or balsa. Consequently, the composite structure delivers bending stiffness that a solid carbon sheet cannot match at the same weight. For instance, a 10mm sandwich panel with 0.5mm face sheets can be 4× stiffer than a 10mm solid laminate while weighing 60% less. As a result, this stiffness-to-weight advantage makes sandwich panels the go-to choice for UAV wing skins, EV battery enclosures, and any application where every gram counts.

Core Options Engineered for Your Load Case

No two core materials perform the same. For instance, PVC and PET foam offer cost-effective pricing and easy CNC shaping — ideal for UAV panels and sports equipment. Furthermore, PMI foam handles temperatures up to 180°C for high-temp industrial applications. Meanwhile, aluminum honeycomb delivers maximum shear strength and rigidity for heavy-load aerospace panels. Similarly, Nomex honeycomb adds fire resistance for aircraft cabin components. Alternatively, balsa wood provides excellent compression strength for marine and wind energy uses. Accordingly, our engineering team reviews your load requirements and recommends the right core, face sheet layup, and thickness — no guesswork, no over-engineering.

Factory-Direct Manufacturing With Full Traceability

YTCarbon oven-cures every sandwich panel under vacuum bag pressure for full resin cross-linking, then our team inspects each panel for flatness and thickness consistency before it leaves our Shenzhen facility. Moreover, custom CNC cutting to your DXF or DWG drawings with ±0.1mm tolerance means you receive panels ready to assemble — no secondary cutting on your end. Ultimately, ISO 9001:2015 certification, material test reports per ASTM D7249 and ASTM C365, and full traceability from raw fabric to finished panel come standard with every order.

Applications

  • UAV & Drone — Specifically, wing panels, fuselage covers, and landing gear doors where every gram counts. Foam core panels keep airframes under weight budget without sacrificing rigidity.
  • Aerospace — In addition, interior panels, structural brackets, and fairings. Nomex honeycomb core meets fire-resistance requirements for aircraft cabin components.
  • Automotive & EV — Furthermore, battery enclosures, floor panels, and interior partitions. CF sandwich panels absorb impact energy while keeping EV weight down.
  • Industrielle Ausrüstung — Similarly, machine covers, robotic arm panels, and inspection platforms that need flatness under load without heavy steel frames.
  • Medizinprodukte — Notably, imaging table tops and surgical bed boards. Lightweight panels reduce motor strain on adjustable beds while supporting patient weight.

Why Choose YTCarbon

  • In fact, we exhibited at the 2025 World UAV Expo — see what a real carbon fiber factory puts on the table. We displayed our sandwich panels and attracted UAV builders looking for lighter airframe solutions.
  • Core selection guidance — Moreover, we help you pick the right core for your load case. Aluminum honeycomb for maximum rigidity, Nomex for weight-critical aerospace, PVC/PET foam for cost-effective general use, PMI for high-temperature applications.
  • Engineering support — Therefore, just send your load requirements and we recommend face sheet layup, core density, and thickness. No guesswork, no over-engineering.
  • Full thickness range — Specifically, from 5mm thin panels for UAV covers to 50mm structural panels for industrial platforms. Face sheet layup from 2-ply to 12-ply.
  • Custom CNC cutting — Finally, we cut panels to your DXF/DWG drawings with ±0.1mm tolerance. We seal edges with epoxy coating to prevent moisture ingress and delamination.

Certifications

YTCarbon manufactures carbon fiber sandwich panels under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. Accordingly, we maintain full material traceability from raw fabric to finished panel. You can also request UL94 V-0 fire rating on honeycomb core panels for flame-resistant applications. In addition, all panels meet RoHS compliance standards. We provide material test reports per ASTM D7249 (face sheet flexural strength) and ASTM C365 (core compressive strength) with each shipment.

How We Manufacture Your Carbon Fiber Sandwich Panel

Each sandwich panel goes through a controlled 8-step process. First, our team cuts and shapes core material to panel dimensions, then layers carbon fiber face sheets per design specification. Next, we apply structural film adhesive between face sheets and core, and vacuum-bag the assembly for even pressure distribution. After that, the oven cures the panel at controlled temperature for full resin cross-linking. Our technicians then demold and inspect it for flatness and thickness. Finally, our CNC machines cut custom shapes to your drawings and technicians apply the surface finish. Every panel ships with a dimensional inspection report.

FAQ

Material & Design Questions

+ What is the difference between a carbon fiber sandwich panel and a solid carbon fiber sheet?
A solid carbon sheet forms a homogeneous laminate — strong and simple, but heavy at thicknesses above 5mm. In contrast, a sandwich panel uses a lightweight core between two thin carbon face sheets. The core adds thickness and therefore bending stiffness without adding much weight. As a result, CF sandwich panels deliver 3-5× more stiffness per unit weight than solid sheets of the same total thickness.
+ Which core material should I choose for a carbon fiber sandwich panel?
Ultimately, it depends on your application. For example, aluminum honeycomb offers the highest shear strength and rigidity — ideal for aerospace and heavy-load panels. Similarly, Nomex honeycomb delivers lighter weight and fire resistance for aircraft interiors. Alternatively, PVC/PET foam costs less and shapes easily, making it a good fit for UAV panels and sports equipment. Furthermore, PMI foam handles temperatures up to 180°C for high-temp industrial uses. Finally, balsa wood provides excellent compression strength for marine and wind energy applications.
+ Can you CNC cut sandwich panels to custom shapes?
Yes. We accept DXF and DWG files and cut panels on CNC routers with ±0.1mm tolerance. In addition, we seal edges with epoxy coating to prevent moisture ingress and delamination. Consequently, you receive panels ready to assemble — no secondary cutting or edge sealing needed on your end.

Ordering & Shipping Questions

+ What is the minimum order quantity for carbon fiber sandwich panels?
You can order PVC and PET foam core panels from just 1 piece — no MOQ. However, aluminum honeycomb, Nomex honeycomb, PMI foam, and balsa core panels start at 5 pieces. You can also request sample panels for testing before you commit to a production run. Contact us for sample pricing.
+ How are carbon fiber sandwich panels packed for shipping?
We pack panels flat in custom wooden crates with foam padding to prevent edge damage and surface scratches. For standard sizes, we ship via DHL/FedEx air freight in 5-7 business days. Alternatively, large or bulk orders ship via sea freight. In all cases, shipments include inspection reports and material certificates.
