A 5mm carbon fiber sheet is not a lightweight cosmetic panel \u2014 it’s a structural workhorse. At this thickness you’re looking at a board that replaces 10mm+ aluminum plate in load-bearing setups, carries serious fastener loads without cracking, and survives the kind of abuse that would permanently deform metal. Machine builders, heavy equipment OEMs, and defense contractors spec 5mm when the part has to hold weight, take impact, and never budge.<\/p>\n

Our 5mm plate is laid up with 12 plies of 3K carbon fiber in a balanced twill configuration, pressed at 120\u00b0C under controlled pressure to achieve 60-65% fiber volume fraction. That’s not a number we throw around \u2014 it directly controls tensile strength, flexural modulus, and how consistently the board machines across its full area. Every batch is tracked for resin content and ply orientation, so your second order machines the same way your first one did.<\/p>\n

What makes the 5mm different from thinner sheets isn’t just that it’s thicker \u2014 it’s how you connect it. At 5mm you can run bolt-through holes with proper edge distances, press in metal inserts for repeated assembly and disassembly, and design structural joints that actually transfer load instead of just holding position. We offer embedded brass inserts, countersunk holes, and custom drilling patterns as part of the CNC service.
